The Stupid. It Stings.

I did it to myself. I knew that the Christmas season was the only time of year I could reasonably take off a solid week without guilt or too much of a backlog. But I signed on two new clients, anyway, right at the end of the year. This is on top of having some serious delays on another client, putting a huge amount of work on our plates right not.

But, looking at the good side, we've replaced the 25% cut in fees from one client, and then some. So, we're back to where we started, and a little better, financially (probably very temporarily, though), with only 2200 hours per year of more work. Hmmmm. That sounds like the stupid. And the stupid...it stings.

With apologies to whoever came up with something similar that I read about not too long ago, but which my aging brain cannot recall in detail.

OK, Alex, I remembered...I think. It was your blog where I saw, or was directed to, "The Stupid. It Burns." And there was a cartoon of a big-toothed guy with a burning head. It's all coming back to me. I can recall these things after a few drinks.

I think this condition is endemic to us who are in business for ourselves. I've done the same thing to myself this fall - as much as I felt like coasting for a bit, I had the opportunity to take on several new clients.

The good thing about new clients is they don't know what your old billing rate was, so you can give yourself a raise.
