I Want to be Buddhist, I Think

I am a million miles away from achieving my objective. I will have contradictory objectives along the way. Those intervening objectives, I think, can be pleasurable and can temper the path toward that one objective, but they get in the way. I don't quite know why I pursue them, too.

But the thing I desire to is to free myself from suffering and to free others from suffering me. If I were to live how I believe, I believe I would live better than I believe I do.

These may seem to be silly riddles, but they're not...at least not entirely.

There is exceptional wisdom in Buddhist philosopy. But it's a hard target to reach.

I have tried, at times, to meditate with a teacher, but in general, what works for me the best is to read and/or listen to the philosophy of Buddhism and where it resonates within me, carry that into the world. There really isn't a "there" there. There's no a-ha moment of enlightenment, and meditating is hard damn work that drove me crazy.

I have learned so much from so many different forms of Buddhism, and it is the 'religious' philosophy that makes the most sense to me.

Read, brother, read. And think. And ponder.

I do read and I think, sometimes, more than is healthy for a brittle mind like mine. I've learned my mind is subject to breakage if I am not careful with it.

Breaking your mind? I like it.
