Trying Hard to Smile

A friend's wife lost her job yesterday. The two of them invest too much of their sense of personal worth in their jobs and they attach too much value to money and the things money can buy. I worry about them. They are good, good people. But they are deeply in debt and they have ruined their credit through their own actions and through dealing with this age of putting too much value on things.

Damn.

ouch. well, I suppose they can always file for bankruptcy, though I am in agreement with your assessment that they spent themselves into this mess.

I have some very rich friends who are working their assess off, and will retire in about 6 years. I see the toll their professional lives are taking on them, and I KNOW beyond any doubt, they could retire TODAY and live more comfortably that 90% of the world. Sigh. They just need so many THINGS for their lives to be meaningful to them. ;-(

I sometimes wonder why I am doing what I'm doing. I could live, at least for awhile, without working, especially if I were extremely frugal. I guess my priorities aren't where I think they ought to be.
