What a difference a TV makes

I'll be driving 300 miles south in the morning. Into a different culture. Sort of. Fifty years ago, that would be true; a totally different culture. I hate television again for yet a new reason

When I'm traveling, I often think of the impact of the media on culture - how you find little gangsta rapper twirps even in the midwest. Very weird. That said, there are some positives to all of this too. Maybe people are losing some of their prejudice against "the other" because they are so accustomed to seeing them on their television sets. Many things are being normalized by television, so in that respect, maybe it can be a positive force too - or at least I'm trying to find something good in it too.

bev has some good points, but I, too, dislike the 'sameness' of culture whenever one goes. The regional differences are fading away and that's a shame, to my way of thinking.

I'm with Tara. And it's interesting that the same things were said of travel in the 19th century. The dangers of travel included that sameness creeping in.

p.s. Springer, throw your t.v. out. You won't die without it.
